Rangers here are always helpful. You can't always get the permit you want because of intense popularity, but their assistance is indespensible.

I usually can get a permit here without the 4 month fax deal. The staff are always super.
I have spent days calling them without success. Why bother posting phone number if it not reachable? There are many solutions to this problem in modern society - make people leave message, call them back, put them on hold and answer the calls in order they were received, etc. They don't care. They will sell all permits anyway. And we pay them salaries from our federal taxes anyway - no matter how bad they work.
