Best trail I've ever done so far... amazing
Bright Angel Trail is the most popular trail at the South Rim for a reason. It maintains an easy (by Canyon standards) grade, it's wide and well maintained, and the scenery is breathtaking. I find that the hike between Indian Gardens and the Colorado River is particularly beautiful, showing a narrower, more intimate side of the Canyon.
Hiked this trail coming back up from the river. This trail is about 2 miles longer than Kaibab and is still pretty darn steep for the last 3 miles. Had an unplanned camp out at the 3 mile from top rest house because my body just ran out of electrolytes from the day of hiking. Floor was hard and made of I believe rock. Do not recommend sleeping here (joking of course). I believe there was 3 or 4 stops for water along this trail. Every time we stopped the water was nice and cool. Also there are a couple little streams that cross this path. Pretty difficult not to get your feet at least a little wet.
Althougth Kaibab trail is more scenic, Bright Angel has more shade and is still beautiful. It is well documented that the last 3 miles before to reach the rim are quite demanding.
Well maintained. Water stops on this trail are turned off October 30 (accept for Indian Garden Campground). Easier hike back out then South Kaibab Trail. Upper portion of trail can get crowded as people walk down from rim for pictures.
